Alcohol in Limousines

In Georgia, new legislation has passed to allow limousine chauffeurs to sell, martinis, champagne and any other alcoholic drinks their passengers request. Expanding alcohol sales in Georgia has been a highly sensitive issue and another pending Senate bill in the House would make it possible for stores to sell alcohol on Sundays.

With restrictions such as these still on their liquor stores, it is a momentous occasion that their limousine hire companies are allowed to serve alcoholic drinks to their passengers. The Sunday alcohol sales bill would have originally only allowed sales in Gwinnett which is a new minor league ballpark. However, the House committee amended the bill to include Sunday package sales, causing a showdown between the House Speaker and a Governor.

The House has also used their passing of alcohol sales in limousines as the basis for loosening the restrictions on store sales, arguing, ‘Since we're expanding alcohol sales to limousines and other carriers, shouldn't we also expand alcohol sales to Sunday?’ While not all members of the House are happy about the pending bill but with alcohol sales on the move – literally, in their limousines – it is obviously an important issue.

It is also important that limousine hire companies in Georgia, and in every other limousine hire area, observe the correct passages to obtain the licensing and background checks needed to allow them to serve their passengers alcohol. Just because a bill has been passed to allow alcohol sales in limousines, doesn’t mean it is not still regulated and must not still undergo safety and regulation rulings.
